Interview with the creator of Triton the anti-flood bulkhead
The story of the Tritone bulkheads starts in January 2014 and engineer Andrea Baraldi tells about it: «I am from Bastiglia, near Modena, and like all my fellow citizens I suffered extensive damage due to the flood of January 19th, 2014. The water damaged everything I had in the garage and in my ground floor apartment. As I cleaned my house from mud, I thought, “How is it possible that nobody has invented a way to avoid such a disaster?” So I started thinking of ideas to prevent this type of problems and the damage resulting from flooding. After trying many different things, I came up with this system of flood proof barriers (bulkheads).
In February 2015 my company, Alu Technology, which produces the Tritone bulkheads, was born. These are adaptable and custom-made aluminum bulkheads for all types of entrances. The gaskets are made of special material for water-tightness. Tests, which can be reviewed on the company’s website, have shown the perfect seal provided by the gaskets, having “kept out” for 5/6 days a cubic meter of water. Tritone bulkheads are useful for both private dwellings and businesses. They can also be used inside homes, to protect the house from any unexpected water leak coming from the laundry room.
The installation is very simple: first, the entrance to be protected is measured and the custom-made bulkhead is constructed. Then two aluminum guide rails are mounted on the two sides of the entrance and finally, the bulkhead slides into the two guide rails and locks into position with two hooks at the top. This makes the protection watertight, with a perfect seal. It takes approximately 30 minutes to mount the guide rails and a customer can do it independently (the level of difficulty is equal to the assembly of a piece of furniture). A tutorial on the company’s YouTube channel will also be available soon. If the customer prefers, the guide rails can be mounted by an Alu Technology technician. Once the guide rails are mounted, if a bad weather emergency is issued, all that needs to be done is to insert the bulkhead (it takes only a few seconds) to protect your home and relax again. They bulkhead can also be mounted before leaving for vacation: if a flood happens, the bulkhead mounted before the departure protects the house, blocking the water from entering the garage or the ground floor and preventing incalculable damage to parked cars, furniture and walls. The bulkhead is available in aluminum grey.
